This painting, of great expressive force, represents the Catholic devotion of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, symbolizing the interior life of Our Blessed Lady, her sorrows and her virtues, her love of Immaculate Mother full of charity for all men, for her son Jesus and by God the Father. White roses spring from her heart as a symbol of her virgin purity. The light given off by her heart, in an almost abstract expressionist way, reminds us of her pain, her helplessness and compassion. The piercing rays lead us to feel her soul pierced by the seven swords or the seven daggers as Sorrowful Mother, from whom the cross of her son, Jesus Christ, rises upwards, representing her vertical divinity and her horizontal humanity.
