Religious painting of the Sevillian Christ on the Cross
Work of the art genre brotherhood of expressionist style where Jesus Christ is shown on the Cross. The painting, in an American frame / three-quarters of large format, reflects the agony of Our Lord, with his mouth half open and his gaze already lost facing the sky to announce the wound of his death. The cloth tied by a cord at the waist is solved in loose and fresh brushstrokes. Treatment of the tense and naked anatomy with the swollen chest reveals the anguish of Christ. The image is a representation of the original carving made in 1682 by the Spanish baroque sculptor Francisco Antonio Ruiz Gijón, made in Flanders royal cedar commissioned by the Brotherhood and Brotherhood of the Expiration of Christ and Our Lady of Peace.
