Description
Portrait of Francisco Tomás de San Juan Bautista Márquez Sánchez
Religious painting of the Malaga friar belonging to the Order of the Capuchin Friars Minor since 1899. Since he was little he already showed inclinations towards spiritual life, growing up in a modest family dedicated to agricultural activities. His fame as a good and miraculous man spread mainly in the southern part of Spain, especially in the city of Granada where he worked as a beggar. He walked the streets on foot for 50 long years to care for and heal those most in need until his death in 1956, being known as "the humble beggar of the three Hail Marys", prayers dedicated to those who asked for the blessing. He was declared blessed in 2010 by the Catholic Church welcoming more than 60.000 people from all over the country.
