Religious painting of the Italian Catholic priest and flaile, better known as Padre Pio, a name he adopted upon entering the Order of the Capuchin Friars Minor (Franciscan reform of the observance belonging to the First Order of San Francisco). He was beatified in 1999 and canonized in 2002 by Pope John Paul II. Noted for his miraculous gifts and for his stigmata pointed at his hands, feet and side, called passionate for the similarity to those of Christ during his Passion. His blood gave off a flowery scent, something associated with his holiness. This fact quickly spread and fame made him the first stigmatized priest.
